Spring is finally here! The bees are buzzing, flowers are blooming, and spring is in the air…or should I say pollen is in the air. Spring is such a beautiful time of year, but it is also the time for allergies! Runny noses, squeezing, and itchy eyes are no one's favorite part of spring. Unfortunately, we are not the only ones to experience these allergy symptoms, many pets are susceptible to allergies too!
Many owners and animal lovers are unaware that animals can experience seasonal allergies. Trees, pollen, and grass are often causes of seasonal allergies in your furry friends. Since we at Paws and Play have started noticing pollen covering the area we have decided to give some helpful tips to help minimize allergies for you and your four-legged babies:
1. Signs of Pets Experiencing Allergies
Eye discharge (often referred to as “crusty eyes”)
Itching and scratching
Excessive licking
Red skin
Inflamed paw pads
Hives (most commonly seen on paws, faces, and bellies)
2. Tips
To help reduce these signs and symptoms of seasonal allergies attempt to bathe your pet more frequently. Wiping off the paws and coats of animals can help remove some of the allergens, such as pollen, that they may come in contact with outside. Keeping a clean pet will help minimize symptoms for yourself and them!
3. Allergy Must Haves
Hypoallergenic grooming wipes
Allergy and immune bites/treats
Pet MD hydrocortisone spray for itch relief
Pet WiPees
Organic pet sage allergy and skin oils
Sometimes allergies can be so severe that you may not be able to treat them yourself. If this is the case please visit your local vet to obtain the proper care and any medication your pet may need.
Hopefully, this post has provided you with a new sense of knowledge and direction to help navigate this spring season! Next time your dog, cat, or horse stops to smell the roses you can be prepared for any symptoms that come about the spring weather!
